Our appeal

Based in Glossop, in the beautiful hills of the High Peak, Reuben’s Retreat is undertaking an ambitious 10-phase project to create a dedicated retreat for families of children with life-limiting, complex medical conditions and families who have experienced the loss of a child.

Six of the ten phases have now been completed, including our Bereavement Support and Wellbeing Centre and our state-of-the-art Activity Wing. Families currently attend a wide range of therapeutic sessions and activities, including counselling, holistic therapies, hydrotherapy, sensory play experiences, and much more.

Reuben's Retreat, Glossop

Our final ambition is to complete the restoration of our beautiful historic building and create fully accessible holiday suites, allowing families to enjoy short breaks where they can spend quality time together in the sanctuary of Reuben’s Retreat.

Families caring for a child with complex medical needs often face significant barriers to taking a holiday. From specialist equipment and accessibility requirements to increased travel and insurance costs, the practical challenges can be overwhelming. For bereaved parents, the opportunity to spend time away together can be invaluable.

We are now incredibly close to making this vision a reality. Your donation will help bring this final phase to life, creating a unique place where families can rest, reconnect, and make lasting memories.

By supporting this appeal, you will be contributing to something truly special, helping families who are navigating some of life’s most challenging circumstances.

In their own words

What families tell us about their time at Reuben’s Retreat.

Every time I wake up here I feel safe and not alone, even though I was never here with my son I feel close to him when I am here
It was truly heartwarming to see our daughter relax in the pool. Her face lit up. These moments mean the world to us
I left feeling so grateful and overwhelmed in such a good way. We were truly spoilt and in our world that is a rarity.
It is fair to say the support I have received has without doubt probably saved my life
Reubens’ understands that child loss for us is daily and forever though the world moves on
It’s so helpful to have medical conversations about our children without judgement as we are all in the same boat
It’s the most magical place on Earth
I feel so much less alone than I have been

They have literally saved me.

When a family loses a child, the world keeps turning while theirs stops. Your gift means there is somewhere to go — a warm room, a listening ear, and people who understand without needing an explanation.
